CPT was founded by Gerry Tuddenham in 1993, with a particular set of services in mind. It was organized to provide technical consulting in Capacity Planning, Performance Tuning and Testing, and those three lines of business are the basis for CPT’s name. In the beginning, its services were focused on the dominant platform of the time: the IBM mainframe.

In 1996, Peter Corrigan joined CPT to lead the company’s expansion into services for mid-range platforms. CPT’s geographic expansion also continued through the late 1990s, with the opening of the Sydney and London offices in 1998, followed by the Canberra office in 2000. CPT also went public in 2000, securing a listing on the Australian Stock Exchange.

In 2001, Peter Wright came to the company from a senior position at IBM Global Services. His mandate was to build on his long experience in the management of IT to establish a new CPT practice area in management consulting. This dual-practice model is the foundation for the company as it is today, with a strong core of technical expertise, delivered in conjunction with services for IT management and governance.

"In January 2002, CPT acquired the Australian IT Management consulting and project management business Deakin Management Consulting". This acquisition brought in additional resources for CPT, with more than 50 experienced consultants with experience in government and the private sector.
